KABUL (SW): The Supreme Audit Office (SAO) has published its report about budget spending by the government that highlights monetary irregularities committed by a number of ministries.
Based on this report, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Defense (MoD) are lagging behind on their budget expenditures. The report published by the SAO indicates that the government entities have spent budget without proper procedures.
Sayed Mohammad Mehdi Husseini, head of national financial revenue at the Supreme Audit Office, said at the launch of SAO report that the government entities have violated rules in their budget expenditure. “The Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, and the National Security Council besides several other government entities have violated different regulations in their budget expenditures”, added Husseini.
He informed that the national revenue has seen a surge of 155 million afghanis.
The annual budget for the 1395 lunar year was around 445 billion afghanis, out of which 169 billion was for developmental purposes.
Mohammad Sharif Sharifi, the director of SAO, while addressing the presser said that the report is crucial for the government as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has directed the government entities to address the violations highlighted in it.
In line with the laws, the findings by the Supreme Audit Office report should be submitted to the President and the Parliament. The President and the Parliament have the authority to question the government entities based on the SAO findings for their violations.
