SAO laments lack of budget spending

KABUL (SW): The Supreme Audit Office (SAO) has charged the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Defense (MoD) for not properly utilizing their development budgets.

Sharing its final audit report here on Tuesday, Mohammad Mehdi Hussaini, deputy director for the SAO said that the overall a large chunk of the development budget for the year 2016 has lapsed. He mentioned that out of the total development budget of 152.79 billion afghanis only 82 billion has been utilized.

All in all, a hefty amount of 48 billion afghanis have been left wasted by the ministries. The SAO officials mentioned that the MoD has not utilized AFN 32 billion while the MoI has failed to utilize some AFN 14 billion. Commenting on the overall budget spending, Mohammad Mehdi Hussaini lamented that out of the total budget of AFN 283.486 billion, only AFN 152.686 billion have been utilized.

Talking to Salam Watandar, Dawlat Waziri, deputy spokesman for the MoD, said that the Ministry has so far spent some 60 percent of its budget and it would try its best to utilize the rest till the end of the year.
