KABUL (SW): Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytskiy, met with Eng. Mohammad Khan, First Deputy for the Chief Executive Officer on Saturday and said that his country would support Peace Talks process in Afghanistan.
A number of political experts believe that Russia has great influence in Asia and can play pivotal role in the region.
Latif Nazari, a political expert, told Salam Watandar that Russia is concerned over insecurity being drawn to the Central Asia and that is why it seeks to bring the Afghan government’s armed oppositions to the negotiating table. He believed that Russians are far more active in the region than China and enjoy more influence among Afghan fighters.
According to him, Russia seeks to support peace talks in Afghanistan to expand its influence in the region and prevents any threats posed against Russia’s security.
Earlier there were reports suggesting Russia’s cooperation with the government’s armed opposition groups, in particular the Taliban.
Farooq Bashar, another political expert, too said that Russia considers peace talks as an option for its own security and therefore it has declared support for the peace talk’s process.
He added that Russia has not had a fighting strategy stance against the Taliban and can easily draw them for negotiation.
