Russia’s concerns over insurgency should be taken seriously

KABUL (SW): Analysts on security affairs have urged the government to take the Russian concerns about surging militancy in Afghanistan seriously.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, said during a visit to Tajikistan on Monday, if needed Russia will use its military bases in Tajikistan in this regard. Experts believe that the increasing concerns of Russia are reasonable in the wake of growing insurgency in Afghanistan. Analysts claim Kabul should take Moscow’s concerns with at most seriousness.

Basir Ranjbar, an analyst, told Salam Watandar Afghanistan is once again under the strategic radar of the Russian Federation. “Insurgent activities in the border areas of the Central Asian countries have alarmed the Russians”, Ranjbar said.

Yunus Fikoor, another analyst, said aside from the insurgency, the presence of NATO countries in Afghanistan has already concerned Moscow. He said Afghanistan should convince the regional countries they would not be affected by it.

Russia has grown weary of Daesh’s insurgency in Afghanistan, forcing the country to extend ties with the Taliban.
