Russian experts brief Afghan officials on Pooza Leech Dam
KABUL (SW): In a bid to strengthen the country’s energy sector, the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) on Sunday discussed various technical aspects of the forth-coming Pooza Leech Dam Ghor.
According to the communiqué, a group of experts and advisors from the MoEW and representatives of the Russian company “Electro” discussed the technical details of the project related to the construction of the dam, canals, powerhouses, matters related to the height and power production.
Poza Leech dam is considered as one of the important development projects with a capacity to produce up to 4.5 MW of electricity.
Earlier, Afghanistan officially named the Salma Dam in Herat after Indo-Afghan friendship to commemorate the friendly ties between the two countries, the MoPW said.
Built with Indian aid, Salma Dam, which was inaugurated on 27 July, is a glaring example of friendship between the two countries. It is hoped the dam would yield a wide range of benefits in the fields of agriculture, industry and power.
It is hoped the dame, after completion would help irrigate some 80000 hectares of land and help produce up to 42 MW of electricity. Lauding the generous aid by the people and the government of India, Ali Ahmad Osmani, Minister for Power and Water proposed to name projects as “India-Afghan Friendship Dam”, which was approved by the Cabinet on 27, August, 2015.
