KABUL (SW): Russia on Saturday expressed interest for investing in economic projects in Afghanistan, particularly in housing projects and urban development.
This was expressed in a meeting between Yuri Sentyurin, Russian Deputy Energy Minister and Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) here. The Russian Minister said that Russia was determined to revive its economic projects in Afghanistan, especially in housing sector through Russian state of the art technologies.
According to the MoUD, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Afghanistan and Russian company Andstroy for the establishment of a construction company called Cardinal.
Cardinal is supposed to invest $ 25 million in importing machineries and other modern construction tools to Afghanistan. With such investments, Cardinal could build around 1000 apartments per year, the MouD added.
Sayed Mansoor Naderi said on the occasion that he was interested to take a trip with a MoUD delegation to Russia in order to see Russian construction and modern machineries as well as sign an agreement with the Russian company Andostroy.
The Soviet era construction in Afghanistan is still considered one of the best Afghanistan has had so far. For instance, the Macrorayan projects provided people with 11000 houses in the forms of 6-story apartments in the capital Kabul.
Similarly, the Salang Tunnel, which is the main source of connectivity to the north of the country, the Naghlow Dam and the Kabul Polytechnic University were all constructed with the Russian assistance.
