KABUL (SW): Qudratullah Sepand, Police Chief in Khenjan district in Baghlan, has informed that a woman who was shot dead by her ex-husband yesterday evening has died.
Personal feud is termed as the motive behind the incident. The Police Chief said that the accused has been arrested and the case is under investigation.
Khadija Yaqin, Head of Women’s Affairs in the province, said that that the killer, Yaqub, divorced his wife after he found out that she could not deliver any baby.
She said that the family of Ruqia’s husband would beat her before she was divorced.
Ruqia’s father, Haji Karim however, said that Yaqub wished to marry once again and that was why divorced Ruqia.
He said that his daughter did not want to live with someone who had divorced her and that was why Yaqub shot her dead.
Haji Karim has asked the judicial bodies to punish the accused so that such story would not be repeated.
According to the reports, violence against women has increased by 7.32 percent in the current year.
In the first six months of the previous year, 2403 cases of violence against women were registered but this year the numbers have reached to 2579 cases.
