KABUL (SW): A well-placed source has informed Salam Watandar, the government through a robust military campaign backed by the U.S. would force the Taliban to enter peace deal.
Every year, the Taliban slow down their militant activities across the country, but with the arrival of spring they intensify attacks. Military affairs analysts believe the warming of weather and blossoming of trees allow the Taliban to wage gruella attacks from their hideouts behind tree covers.
Hence, it is feared insecurity would further increase in coming days and months.
Meanwhile, a well-placed source in the National Unity Government (NUG) informed Salam Watandar that the Afghan and American forces would take lead in waging robust attacks against the Taliban forcing them to enter peace talks. The source informed the U.S. would utilize modern resources moved from Iraq and Syria to Afghanistan in this military campaign.
However, Atiqullah Amarkhil, expert on military affairs, has expressed doubts about this policy. He said the government has never gained much whenever it expressed serious will to counter the Taliban. Amarkhil went on to say if the U.S. wishes to bring peace to Afghanistan it should exert immense pressure on Pakistan, the actual backer of the Taliban.
Zalmay Wardak, another analyst on security affairs, was of the opinion that the government’s policy towards dealing with the Taliban is questionable. He mentioned that one on end the government has offered to hold unconditional peace talks with the Taliban, and on the other end it is vowing to eliminate them. He asserted this strategy of the U.S. and the Kabul government would not yield positive results.
At the second meeting of the Kabul Process last month, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani offered a generous package of incentives for the Taliban to enter unconditional peace process, but 11 days since then, the Taliban have expressed their dislike for such offer through their intensified attacks on the security forces.
Analysts believe the increased pressure by the U.S. and Afghan security forces would result in the Taliban moving away from group assaults to terrorist attacks in urban centers across Afghanistan.
