Roadside bomb blast kills 8 in Helmand

25/03/2020

A roadside bomb blast in Helmand province on Wednesday claimed the lives of at least eight civilians, an official confirmed.

Umer Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor in Helmand, said the incident took place in the Musa Qala district. Blaming the Taliban for planting the improvised explosive device, he confirmed all eight people killed in the blast were civilians.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident.

Earlier this month, at least three people got killed and more than ten wounded following a heavy blast in a football ground in Khost province.

The annual UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan report that has been systematically documenting the impact of the war on civilians since 2009 revealed last month the number of civilian casualties since had surpassed 100,000.
