TALOQAN (SW): Dozens of armed men affiliated with a local uprising have blocked the ways to six districts in protest against arrest of their commander.
The commander named Haji Jalal has been arrested from Yangi Qala district in over the charges of drug trafficking following clashes with the security forces.
Rashid, a police official at the Dasht-e-Qala district told Salam Watandar that Jalal’s followers have closed the road alongside the Kokcha River since Wednesday that leads to six districts of the province. He added that Jalal’s two commanders Shahbaz and Arbab Rauf. He added that these people are also demanding arrest of those responsible for the death of another Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander Mula Mosa.
Musa was leading a 35 -member ALP unit before being killed over a month ago in car bombing. Local authorities have blamed Taliban militants for that attack.
Gen. Mohammad Hakimi, Takhar Police Chief said in this regard that Haji Jalal has been involved in numerous crimes and has got wounded in clashes with the security forces. Hakimi blamed those blocking the roads for seeking personal benefits.
Following a brief fall of Kunduz City to the Taliban, some 1400 men took up arms and vowed to defend their areas against the Taliban. It is however, believed that these armed men have now become a headache for the local authorizes.
