Road accident claims 14 lives in Farah

HERAT CITY (SW): A bus carrying passengers from Herat has collided with an oil tanker in Farah leaving at least 14 people dead and more than 40 injured.

Mohammad Nasir Mehri, spokesman for the provincial governor in Herat told Salam Watandar that the bus was en route to Kabul from Herat via Kandahar when the unfortunate incident occurred in Farah province’s Toot area. The bus reportedly belonged to the Ahmad Shah Baba Abdali transportation company.

According to the officials in Herat, women and children are among the dead and injured. The state of many injured passengers is said to critical. Mehri added that critically injured passengers have been moved to Herat while those with minor injuries have been treated in Farah province’s Gulistan district.

A day earlier, a similar road accident claimed four lives and left 36 people injured in the neighboring Nimroz province.
