KABUL (SW): Religious scholars who gathered here on Sunday unanimously denounced fanaticism with particular reference to groups like Hezebul Tahrir, Daesh and Taliban.
They urged upon the government to take serious measures to stop these groups from spreading hatred. These religious scholars came from across the country to assess political, economic and religious motivations to find a solution to the issue of extremism in the society.
The 3-day gathering was held at the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs in Kabul.
Mawlawi Abdullah, one of the religious scholars at the gathering, said that they support peace talks with the Taliban. He asked the international community and regional countries to put tremendous efforts to put an end to fighting in Afghanistan.
Faiz Mohammad Osmani, Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, emphasized on the crucial roles religious scholars could play in the fight against extremism. He asked the scholars to increase their general knowledge on a wide range of subjects.
Osmani regretted that no serious efforts have been made to eradicate extremism from the society in the past.
