JALALABAD (SW): A religious cleric Mawlawi Ghulam Farooq has been shot dead by unknown assailants in Nangarhar’s Behsud district.
Reports from the area suggest, Mawlawi Ghulam Farooq was gunned down by unknown armed attackers riding a motorcycle.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed that the religious cleric was on his way in a car to Chaparhar district form Nangarhar city when the attackers intercepted, and killed him in the Akhundzada area of the Behsud district. The spokesman said the victim was teacher for religious studies in the Lalmi area of the Chaparhar district.
Khogyani said the government has initiated investigations into the shooting.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the killing. This is not the first incident of targeted killing in the province. Three days ago, a religious scholar was shot dead in the Chaparhar district.
