
KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC) has vowed to address complaints in connection with the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections.
Ali Raza Rouhani, spokesman for the IECC, told a presser here on Sunday candidates would be held accountable for violation of the code of conduct for the electoral campaigns. Candidates have been warned against campaigning before or after the allocated time for campaign, utilization of state resources, promoting hatred, raising funds from foreign sources etc.
Rouhani went on to mention up to 133 complaints regarding the campaign process have been registered, 89 of which have been processed.
Separately, the electoral watchdog, Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan, has acknowledged there are fundamental changes in this year’s campaign in comparison to the last year’s one. Yosuf Rasheed, head of FEFA, said today the rampant use of posters has, however, spoiled the beauty of the cities. He called for the formation of joint commission between the IEC and the municipalities.
