KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been crowned as the man of the match at the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017.
He became the first player from Afghanistan to bag this achievement. Rashid took two wickets against only nine runs in his four overs against St. Lucia last evening. The ‘googly master’ dismissed Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal and West Indies national player Jason Charles. His outstanding bowling earned his team Guyana Amazon Warriors first victory after three back to back defeats.
In his maiden three matches at the CPL, Rashid bowled 12 overs and give away 79 runs without taking any wicket. In his comments after the match, the Afghan national player said it was quite difficult to come back in the tournament after three defeats.
His teammate Mohammad Nabi made history when he became the first players from Afghanistan to be picked in the 2017 CPL draft. The former captain was picked up by St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots for USD 90,000 in the fourth round of the draft and was closely followed by team-mate Rashid Khan, who was taken in the sixth round for USD 60,000 by Guyana Amazon Warriors.
This is the third lucrative league after Indian Premier League (IPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the two Afghan cricketers to play.
