
PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Locals and members of the provincial council in Logar have said that the rampant smuggling of precious stones goes uncheck in the province.
They said that bulk of precious stones and antiquities have been smuggled to Pakistan with the involvement of local officials on regular basis.
Speaking to Salam Watandar, Sayed Qaribullah Sadat, the head to Logar Provincial Council said that he had received reports indicating the smuggling from Kafir Kot area of Kharwar district. Sadat expressed his concerns and stated that the security officials have been informed to take actions to stop this as soon as possible.
Sayed Qaribullah Sadat further said that the illegal extraction of precious stones begun when the district office building was moved in Kharwar district. Confirming the incident, Salim Saleh, the spokesman for Logar governor said that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) would intervene to prevent the illegal extraction and smuggling of the pernicious stones.
He added that the local government has arrested Ajmal Sahak, the head of Mining Department in the province, who was allegedly accused of involvement in the smuggling.
A while ago, Mohammad Haleem Fidayee, governor Logar said that the local government would ensure to curb illegal extraction and smuggling of Chromate stone from the province. The ground situation however, indicates opposite situation.
