KABUL (SW): With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, the prices of a number of basic commodities sky-rocketed in the capital Kabul.
A number of traders in the captial’s Qazi Garden area informed prices of each pack of food items such as wheat, rice, pulses and cooking oil have surged by AFN 50 to AFN 300 each. The traders are blaming surging demand of food items and decline in the value of afghani against the U.S. dollar for the price-hike.
However, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) is blaming the traders for exploiting the situation illegally for their illegal profits.
Musafar Qoqandi, spokesman for the MoIC, said in this regard a committee has been formed in consultation with the private sector to keep prices under check. He vowed those found violating the rules and regulations would be held responsible.
