MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW): The Turkmen community members from Balkh, Jawzjan, Faryab and Kunduz province on Monday staged protest demonstration against the sacking of governor of Samangan.
Organizers of the rally claimed the Turkmen community has a population of at least five million, and deserves to have many ministers, ambassadors and other top posts in the government.
This comes after the Independent Directorate of Local Government (IDLG) announced dismissal of Abdul Kareem Khadam, governor of Samangan province, associated with the Jamiat-e-Islami party. The unseated governor is resisting his sacking.
Rozgeldi Ochi, former member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), said on the occasion that the National Unity Government (NUG) is based on an understanding, and the Turkmen community deserves a share as well. He said the unseated governor can only be sacked by his own camp.
The Turkmen community has vowed to block highways if their demands are not met.
Mohammad Anwar and Abdul Hai, two leaders of the community, said in this regard that similar protest demonstrations would be held in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces as well until the demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the Jamiat-e-Islami party has also opposed by the Arg (Presidential palace)’s move of sacking the governor.
Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the IDLG, but to no avail. This comes as the Chief Executive of Jamiat-e-Islami, Atta Mohammad Noor, unseated governor of Balkh province, also defied the decision of his sacking a couple of months ago.
