FAIZABAD (SW) – Expressing grim concerns over surging numbers of internally displaced persons in Badakhshan, the directorate of refugees has said it cannot deal with the crisis.
Abdul Wahid Tayabi, head of the directorate, told Salam Watandar there are an estimated five thousand IDPs in dire need here. He said the displaced persons are in urgent need of food, water, shelter and other services of life. Tayabi said the local administration lacks the capacity to meet the demands of these needy people.
An IDP from Jurm province, Saifuddin, said the presence of the Taliban forced many families to flee their homes. He added many displaced families have taken shelters on the outskirts of Faizabad with no aid or support. Saifuddin said many families are living in makeshift tents while others are living in rented facilities out of desperation.
Deputy Chairman for the provincial council, Ahmad Javed Mujadadi, has also expressed concerns over the plight of the IDPs. He said these needy people are particularly in need during the harsh winter. He lamented the government has so far failed to address the needs of the IDPs.
Up to five thousand families have been displaced by ragging war in Badakhshan.
