KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Up to one thousand more families in Kunduz have been displaced by the rages of war in Qala Zaal district and other parts of the province.
Abdul Salam Hashimi, head of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriates, informed Salam Watandar efforts to provide aid and assistance to these internally displaced families are underway. Most of these IDPs have moved to the Abdaan desert in the Qala Zaal.
Two members of such a displaced family said they are facing shortage of basic needs, including food and water.
Syed Yasin Sadad, head of a National Directorate of Security (NDS) unit in the area, said in this regard that the security forces have reclaimed the main market in Qala Zaal named Aq Tapa from the armed rebels. He said 17 Taliban militants have been killed and 14 other wounded in the operation. The NDS officer said police units and members of the local uprising force have taken charge of affairs.
The Taliban overran Aq Tapa and some 86 villages in the district last week.
