Qamar vows to fight Taliban all her life

GHOR (SW) – A teenage girl from Ghor province who recently killed two Taliban fighters to avenge her parents' murder, has vowed to fight the insurgents all her life.

The young girl, Qamar Gul is not more than 15 years old. Two Taliban fighters shot her parents overnight in front of her and her younger brother in the village of Griwa in the Tiwara district. "It was around one o'clock after midnight when Taliban fighters broke into our house and shot my parents," she told Salam Watandar.

She added that after that incident, she targeted the Taliban fighters with her father's gun, killing two of them and wounding another one. In this conversation, Qamar Gul emphasized that she will fight against the insurgents all her life.

Qamar Gul, who still mourns the loss of her parents, urged girls and women in Ghor not to allow any group, especially the Taliban, to target civilians.

Taking shelter in a safe place in the province, Qamar Gul wants the government to provide her and her younger brother with opportunities for education.

Mohammad Rafiq Alam, the district governor of Tiwara, said that Qamar Gul’s courage was commendable and that the government would award her with the Malalai Medal of Courage.

Recently, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also praised the courage of the young Ghori girl.
