KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A hospital which no longer than two years ago was established in Qala Zaal district in Kunduz for the addicts to seek rehab, has now turned into a military base of the Afghan National Army.
Officials at the Counter-Narcotics Department, criticized Ministry of Public Health saying that the ministry failed to reactivate the rehab center.
Abdul Basir Murshid, Head of Counter-Narcotics Office in Kunduz, said that the hospital was initially built in the district to treat 30,000 addicts out of whom 17,000 live in this district.
He warned that if they didn’t do anything about it, the hospital would fully turn into the property of the National Army Forces and would put an end to the hopes of the addicts who wish to seek treatment there.
Abdul Hakim Sadaat, a member at Kunduz Provincial Council, however said that the number of addicts in Qala Zaal increases by each passing day but the government has no intention to do anything about it.
Officials at the Public Health Department in the province said that lack of enough budget has led to the problems regarding the hospital.
Said Mukhtar, Head of Public Health Department in Kunduz, said that they would do everything possible to equip the hospital again.
