HELMAND (SW) – Authorities in Helmand confirmed on Wednesday Abdul Jabbar Qaharmaan, a prominent candidate for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), got killed in a blast in Helmand.
Umar Zwak, spokesman for the governor, told Salam Watandar explosive hidden under a chair in his electoral office in Lashkargah claimed the life of Qaharmaan. The incident took place at around 09:00 am today.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack that also killed three more people and injured 8 people.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has condemned the attack. In a statement, the president pronounced Qaharmaan as a true and brave patriot. He also directed relevant authorities to launch thorough investigations into the attack.
