JALALABAD (SW): Zahir Qadeer, the Deputy Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) reiterated his resolve on Sunday to eliminate militants from eastern Nangarhar province.
Qadeer was addressing a press conference in Jalalabad city. I am not sitting idle here and would soon launch a local uprising against the militants, he said. The WJ Deputy called upon the locals to be prepared for the uprising.
Qadeer did not mention a specific timeline for the uprising.
He warned the rebels that Nangarhar would be turned into graveyard for those troubling Afghans. Qadeer expressed willingness to fight shoulder to shoulder with the government forces against the surging Daesh in this eastern province.
A week earlier, Qadeer warned the government that he would led a parallel armed action against the rebels if the government failed to address the security concerns in the province. Asadullah Farahi, Deputy Head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) however, rebuffed Qadeer’s remarks saying not one would be allowed to spearhead self-styled armed camapaigns.
Nangarhar peope have long been expressing growing concerns over the surge of militancy.
