KABUL (SW): Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Tuesday expressed stern reaction towards remarks made by the Deputy Speaker of the house over presence of Daesh leaders in Kabul and the allegations about government indirectly supporting it.
Speaker of the house Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said in this regard that a parliamentary commission should probe Qadeer’s claims and review the proofs.
The WJ members believed Abdul Zaher Qadeer’s remarks have benefited the enemy. It was noted that the Deputy Speaker should strive to serve the masses that have elected him as their representative instead of benefiting the rebels.
Helay Irshad, a member of the house feared Qadeer’s remarks would leave negative impacts upon international community’s assistance with Afghanistan. She mentioned such allegations provide the international backers an opportunity to question the government’s will in the fighting against the militants.
Shinkay Karokhail, another female member of the house, said the WJ should refrain from stirring such negative debates. She mentioned an in-camera session of the house should probe Qadeer’s remarks.
Some other members however, remarked that Abdul Zaher Qader has regional differences with Mohammad Hanif Atmar, National Security Advisor, which was causing the hassle. Their personal feud should not be allowed to undermine the whole system of governance, members remarked.
The house expressed optimism about the committee designated by the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to probe Qadeer’s remarks.
In today’s session, Zaheer Qadeer rejected criticism directed at him and vowed to resign if his allegations regarding Daesh proved wrong.
