Qadeer charges two MPs for taking ‘bribe’

KABUL (SW): Member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) Abdul Zaher Qadeer on Saturday charged two of his fellow parliamentarians for taking ‘bribes’ form the government.

In today’s session, Qadeer showed two papers which he pronounced to be official notifications by the State Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Presidential Palace, authorizing payment of AFN 10 million for the purpose of meetings with the WJ members.

He charged the Presidential Palace has issued $ 15,000 and $ 20,000 to Abdul Qadir Zazay Watandost and Kamal Nasir Osoli for ‘unknown purpose’. “This matter should be addressed, this is the nation’s money, not personal funds of the President”.

Meanwhile, Zikrullah Farzi, spokesman for the State Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, has labelled Zaher Qadeer’s remarks as ‘claims’ only. He added as long as this issue is not legally referred by the WJ to the Ministry, it cannot be probed. He said the reactions of the two accused would make the matter much more clear.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the accused MPs, but repeated calls were not responded.

Few weeks back, Humayoun Humayoun, first deputy speaker of the WJ, levelled allegations of corruption and embezzlement against speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and secretary Khdai Nazar Nusrat, and an investigation by the house’s fact-finding mission proved the allegations true.
