FAIZABAD (SW) – Despite mounting concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus, many people in areas with suspected cases remain in dark about the threats and safe ways to deal with it.
A local resident in Badakhshan province – who has just returned from Iran, has been quarantined by the local doctors, without knowing whether he had the coronavirus. According to him, the doctors quarantined him without giving him the slightest guidance on how to prevent the outbreak.
Abdullah, a recent returnee from Iran, told Salam Watandar that he knows nothing about the term ‘quarantine’.
A day earlier, the Badakhshan Health Department announced that a number of residents of the province – who had just returned from Iran, were in quarantine and were under serious care. It said that six residents of the province – who have recently returned from Iran, are under the watchful eye to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.
Noor Khawari, the head of Badakhshan Health Department, said four of these people were in Yavan and Raghistan districts and one in Kashim district and one in Badakhshan's capital, Faizabad, and had not yet shown any signs of having the coronavirus. He said that because the residents of the province have a large influx of people from Iran, the situation would change if the positive cases were recorded, and it would be difficult to prevent the spread of the virus.
Earlier this week, health minister Firuzuddin Firouz cited seven suspected cases of the virus in the western province of Herat, followed by one in Ghor and one in Farah. Health Minister also announced allocation of $ 5 million to counter the spread of coronavirus in the country.
