KABUL (SW): The protests and sit-ins against the string of latest terrorist attacks, and for change and reforms in the government entered seventh day on Thursday.
Amin Amini, an organizer of the protest, told Salam Watandar they would not talk with the government until their demands are not met. He said more protesters from different provinces would come to the capital to join them.
Meanwhile, analysts have criticized a statement issued by the Presidential Palace in regard to the protest camps in the city. This statement issued on Wednesday states: "If the situation continues the government will take legal action against those who impede rights of others”. Analysts have warned against confrontation between the law enforcement agencies and the protesters.
Jafar Mehdawi, a member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), told Salam Watandar the government's efforts to end the protest camps is an act of ‘oppression’. “Naturally, if the citizens’ right to protest is impeded then they will resort to violence”, added Mehdawi.
Nazari Paryani, a journalist, also said the government’s statement is ‘oppressive’. He added the government has resorted to threatening public against holding civil activism. “This method will divulge government into further crisis”, expressed Paryani. He urged the government to put away fear and oppression again the people.
But, the government has justified the statement by saying that the protesters have further created security concerns, road blockades and unnecessary off days for public and private entities.
