SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Protest demonstrations against the arrest of Nezamuddin Qaisari, chief of police in Qaisar district in Faryab, on Saturday entered 12th day.

Protesters in Jawzjan province called upon the international community to send a fact-finding commission into the arrest of Qaisari. They also demanded return to the country of vice president Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum from Turkey.

Hameedullah Bashardost and Gul Rehman, two such protesters, said the way protesters closed down the provincial administration compound, they can also close down the presidential palace if their demands are not met.

Commenting on this, Mohammad Reza Ghafori, spokesman for the provincial governor of Jawzjan, confirmed the provincial administration compound has been closed down, and the staff did not show-up for duty today.

Similar demonstration took place in Takhar province where protesters set the portrait of the president, and the head of the Independent Directorate of Local Government on fire. Protesters also closed down Takhar – Kunduz highway.

In Faryab and Sar-e-Pul provinces too, protesters called for unconditional release of Qaisari. Bashir Ahmad, one such protester wearing coffin, said the protesters are ready to sacrifice their lives for justice.

Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the president, has clarified the president has noted all demands of the masses, and had discussion with the governor of  Faryab on this matter.

The protests flared-up after a viral video in which security forces can been seen abusing the guards of Qaisari.
