KABUL (SW) – A number of participants at the Loya Jirga (grand consultative session) told Salam Watandar security forces have physically abused two participants.
According to eyewitnesses, two such peace delegates wished to speak during the speeches by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and chairman of the LJ Abdul Rab Rasul Sayaf, but the security forces beat them and dragged them out of the hall.
According to a number of peace delegates, an ‘authoritative’ environment has been imposed in the hall.
During a protest by one of the participants, President Ghani said: “Let go of the talk, this is not the place, share your views in working groups”.
We wished to have the views of the LJ administration on this matter, but to no avail. There are no reports about the whereabouts of the two delegates.
Naveed Mohammad of the NAI – Supporting Open Media organization, told SW suppressing protesters is against the freedom of speech and the Constitution.
Some 3200 delegates are taking part in the LJ who would share their views in dedicated working groups.
