MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW) – On the 16th day of protests by the Junbish party, demonstrators on Wednesday closed down the highway leading to Hairatan dry port in Balkh province.
Syed Shamsuddin, one of the protesters, said the protesters would cut the electricity supply to the capital Kabul if their demands are not met. In Samangan province, the protesters closed down the governor’s office, and vowed to march towards Kabul.
In Jawzjan province, the protesters threatened to launch armed campaign against the government if vice president, Abdul Rasheed Dostum, did not return to Afghanistan in three days, and Nezamuddin Qaisari, district police chief, is not released from custody. Similar views were expressed by protesters in Faryab province.
These protests sparked after the arrest of Qaisari, a close aide to Dostum, in Faryab province over two weeks ago.
