Protest demonstrations against growing unrest

GHOR (SW) – The Taliban militants stormed a security check post on the outskirts of Feroz Koh city in Ghor province killing at least nine security forces, an official confirmed on Saturday.

Abdul Rehman Atshan, deputy chairman for the provincial council, said the insurgents attacked the check post in the Bandbayan area on the southern outskirts of the capital city. Abdul Basir Qaderi, a member of the provincial council, said four Taliban insurgents also got killed in this attack.

Head of the public hospital, Mohammad Naseer Naziri, confirmed nine soldiers got killed and five more got wounded in this attack. He said on injured person is in critical state.

Relatives and family members of the deceased staged a protest demonstration at the provincial administration compound against the alleged incompetence of the officials.

Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, has also confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the army’s 207 – Zafar Corps, said in a statement that eight Taliban insurgents were killed and six more wounded in a clean-up operation in the Bandbayan area of Feroz Koh city.

Separately, dozens of Parwan residents staged a protest demonstration against the alleged civilian casualties in an operation by the NDS forces in the Khalazaey and Rabat areas. They claimed 7 civilians got killed, 12 more got injured and a number of others were taken away in this operation.

A credible source told SW six Taliban insurgents were killed and 14 more were arrested in this operation.
