JALALABAD (SW) – The Special Forces of the National Directorate of Security, NDS, should take extra measures to avoid civilian casualties, residents of Nangarhar province demanded on Tuesday.
Protesters from the Khogyani, Sherzad and Hesarak district took to the streets to protest against evident surge in civilian casualties in operations conducted by the NDS here. They claimed at least 160 civilians, including women and children, got killed in the operations of Special Forces during the past three months.
One of the local elders, Dilawar, said on the occasion the government should take notice of the situation, and if the situation persisted the locals would stand against the security forces. Ibrahim, another local elder, said many families have left their homes due to such operations by the 02 Unit of the NDS in the province.
