Protest against ban on motorcycles in Jalalabad

29/04/2018

JALALABAD (SW): A number of residents in Jalalabad on Sunday took to the streets against a ban imposed on riding motorcycles in the city.

Members of the motorcycle traders association said on the occasion the provincial administration should take other fundamental steps towards ensuring peace rather than imposing a ban on motorcycles. They stressed the association has paid taxes and the motorcycles have all the legal documents.

The ban has been imposed in the wake of growing criminal activities in the city involving unknown armed men riding motorcycles.

Zabihullah Haqyar, Mohammad Afzal and Polad Kamawal, three members of the association, informed there are as many as ten thousand motorcycles in the city, and up to 3000 people are associated with the trade who are bearing the brunt of this ban.

The public opinion is divided on the matter. A number of Jalalabad residents have welcomed the ban.

Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has clarified the ban is for short-time due to the involvement of motorcycles in a number of criminal activities. He said the ban would be liفted as soon as situation normalizes.
