Project to preserve agriculture yield worth billions

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock on Sunday announced plans to preserve agriculture products amid curbs on exposed caused by coronavirus.

Sharing details of the project, Hashmatullah Ghafori, director MAIL, told a press conference that thousands of cold storages would be built in line with the project. He added on top of the 600 cold storages under construction for grapes, an additional 4332 more cold storages would be built.

The deputy minister said this would lift the storage capacity to 16 tons of grapes.

Based on this project, thousands of more cold storages would be built to preserve onions, potatoes, pomegranates, apple and other fruits.

The deputy minister said the MAIL would also provide drying devices to farmers to preserve fruits and vegetables traditionally. The project is aimed to safeguarding up to 50 per cent of the agriculture yield bound for export from wasting.

The entire project would cost up to AFN 13.8 billion, Ghafori said, adding it would create jobs for thousands of people.
