KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) on Sunday inked deal with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for clean water supply in rural parts of Afghanistan.
Mujibur Rehman Karimi, Minister for the MoRRD, told a gathering in this connection that the $ 43.2 million would project would be completed in two years. He mentioned that only 53 per cent of rural population has access to clean drinking water, and with this project this ratio is likely to surge to 73 per cent.
Adele Khodr, UNICEF Representative in Afghanistan, reaffirmed the commitment towards ensuring basic needs including clean drinking water for all Afghans. She said this program is also aimed at providing clean drinking water under emergencies.
It was said up to 9 out of 34 province in Afghanistan are faced with acute shortage of clean drinking water.
