Pro-Daesh rebels torch shrines and graveyards in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW): Local authorities and residents in Jawzjan province have said pro-Daesh rebels torched several shrines and graveyards in the province.

Mohammad Reza Ghafori, provincial governor’s spokesman, said the Daesh rebels led by a man named “Hikmat” have destroyed two shrines in Bibi Maryam and Sufi Dost Mohammad villages of Sar Dara district in the province.

Residents of Darzab district have also said the pro-Daesh rebels have warned local residents they will destroy all shrines and graveyards in their controlled areas. According to the residents, the Daesh rebels have destroyed historic Khwaja Ashkara Jan shrine. Elders of Darzab district have urged the government to take immediate steps against the militants here.

Deash rebels are known for notoriously destroying and damaging historical monuments and shrines in Iraq and Syria.
