ASADABAD (SW) – The pro-Daesh militants have abducted 12 workers of a demining company in Kunar province, officials informed on Thursday.
According to the spokesman for the governor, Abdul Ghani Musmim, the de-miners have been abducted from the Manogay district. He charged the team went to this restive area without informing the officials. Musmim regretted efforts to free the abducted men through negotiation via the local elders have so far yielded no results.
Commenting on this, Fareed Dehqan, spokesman for the police headquarters, said the de-miners associated with the Area Company did not inform the security institutions either.
Meanwhile, a local elder, Nooruddin Safi, has claimed the mediation of the local elders resulted in the militants freeing eight of the abductees. He added efforts are underway to ensure safe recovery of the rest of abductees.
The pro-Daesh militants have not commented on this so far. The Manogay district was previously known for the clout of the Taliban, but locals assert the activities of the pro-Daesh rebels are now on the rise.
