KABUL (SW) – NAI – Supporting Open Media organization stressed on Monday press freedom should not be compromised upon in the proposed peace process.
Abdul Mujeeb Khelwatgar, chief executive of NAI, told a press conference in this connection that the matter of press freedom should be added to the agenda for peace talks.
Analysts believe notable progress has been made in talks for six days in Qatar between the Taliban and the U.S. He stressed a deal without guarantees for press freedom and the freedom of speech would not be acceptable. He added information about the talks in Doha that pose no threat to the process should be shared with the media.
This comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said in a televised speech that there would be no compromise on the national unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, national interests and fundamental rights of the citizens.
