KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has reportedly warned to dissolve those political parties insisting upon their demands in connection with elections, hence hindering the forthcoming polls.

Muhaiuddin Mehdi, member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party executive committee, told Salam Watandar the president told political leaders at a meeting in Arg (presidential palace) if they continued to insist upon their demands in connection with the elections, their parties would be dissolved in line with the laws of the political parties.

Mehdi said the president showed the law to the participants of the meeting on multiple times warning if political parties issued threats or acted in such a way, they would be dissolved immediately. He added the Attorney General, Fareed Ahmad, was also present in the meeting.

It is said the meeting ended in dispute with the participants declining to have dinner at the Arg.

The Jamiat party leader said the president has a plan to acquire 27,000 biometric machines to verify voters for the polls, however, the political parties disapprove the move as these machines would remain in government control.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the president, Shah Hussain Murtazavi, has clarified the meeting with the political leadership was positive which approved formation of a committee to take further the debate on polls.
