President releases funds for preparations for AIMAG in Turkmenistan

KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has approved budget worth AFN 37 million for National Olympic Committee for the forthcoming 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games AIMAG in Turkmenistan.

A comprehensive squad of 198 Afghan athletes are set to join the games next month in Turkmenistan for various sports. The allocation of funds comes at a time when there are two parallel Olympic Committees functioning in Afghanistan with one head by Mohammad Hanif and the other one by Zaher Aghbar. The government has released funds for the National Olympic Committee head by Zaher Aghbar.

As per the Presidential Decree, the funds have been released to ensure the Afghan athletes are able to properly prepare for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

The National Olympic Committee has welcomed the move. It has called upon relevant sports federations to gear-up for the mega event. Chairman of the Committee Zaher Aghbar has thanked the President for taking this key step.
