KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday led an official delegation to visit the flood-affected Farah province.
Addressing the local elders, Ghani stressed the government is committed to construct the Baksh Abad Dam here. The President directed relevant authorities to swiftly execute rescue, relief and rehabilitation process for the flood victims.
Addressing the local civil society members, he said Farah, Herat and Nimroz have impressive potential for wind energy, and discussions have been held with a private firm to utilize this. He assured Farah residents the provinces would be linked to the imported electricity coming from Turkmenistan.
Matters related to the promotion of agriculture and market access were also discussed.
Mosa Nazari, deputy governor of Farah, told Salam Watandar the government has completed survey and design works for the Baksh Abad Dam. He said soon the National Procurement Agency would be engaged for the contracting of tunnels, which would be followed by construction work. He said the President promised to begin construction work within three months.
This comes as flash floods have caused havoc in Farah and neighboring provinces.
