KABUL (SW): The office of the Second Vice President has said leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) have reached a consensus on the issue of the electronic identity cards.
Mohammad Hidayat, advisor to the Second VP Sarwar Danish, has told Salam Watandar the NUG leaders have agreed upon the terms for the new ID cards. “The Presidential decree was supposed to be signed today (Wednesday), but due to some administrative procedure the decree will be signed on Saturday next week”, informed Hidayat.
According to him, the government is ready to roll out the new ‘electronic tazkiras’ (biometric identity cards).
Omid Maisam, deputy spokesman for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has also confirmed the development. “The issue of electronic identity cards is on the agenda for final review in the upcoming cabinet meeting”, added Maisam.
The distribution of new biometric identity cards has been delayed so far due to differences over its details among the NUG leaders.
