KABUL (SW): The process of distribution of electronic National Identity Cards “eNIC” was officially launched by the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani today.
President Ghani called the distribution of the eNIC a step forward in the good governance in the country. According to President Ghani, with the beginning of the distribution of eNIC, security and economy will improve in the country.
President Ghani said the distribution of eNIC will enable Afghanistan for the first time to exactly know the census of the population in the country.
Name, father’s name and place of birth are imprinted by laser on the eNIC and a memory chip on the back of the card will store the information of the card holders as well.
After years of controversy, the process of eNIC distribution has finally started, although, the dispute over the word “Afghan” recorded on the eNIC still continues. However, some people have insisted that the ethnic and national identifiers should be included on the eNIC, some others contest and only insist on the word “Afghan” to be included instead.
