KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, at the Arg (presidency) on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Arg, the two sides emphasized upon revival of the intra-Afghan dialogue as a critical move towards paving way for government-led direct peace talks with the Taliban.
Khalilzad briefed the Afghan leadership about his latest visits to a number of capitals in connection with the peace process.
Separately, Khalilzad also met CEO Abdullah Abdullah in the presence of interim foreign minister, Salahuddin Rabbani, at his office.
Office of Executive Chief said in a statement on Sunday that in this meeting CEO Abdullah and minister Rabbani appreciated the efforts of Khalilzad to establish a just and lasting peace in Afghanistan, and assured the readiness of the Afghan government and the help of the people this process.
