KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his political rival Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday inked political deal to end lingering electoral dispute.

Spokesman for the presidency, Sediq Sediqqi, confirmed the major political development through a tweet. “The Political Agreement between President (Mohammad Ashraf) Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has just been signed. Dr. Abdullah will lead the National Reconciliation High Council and members of his (electoral) team will be included in the cabinet”, he tweeted.

Earlier this month, the president's spokesman stressed that all matters of the political agreement will be addressed within the framework of the Constitution. According to him, with the finalization of this agreement between Arg and Sepidar, the existing political challenges that have had a negative impact on governance activities will be resolved.

Although he did not mention the principles on which the agreement was reached, but Salam Watandar had received a copy of Abdullah Abdullah's plan about two weeks ago to reach a political agreement with President Ghani. A source close to Abdullah Abdullah confirmed the proposed final plan to Salam Watandar. Under the proposed plan, the central and provincial administrations will be divided equally between Abdullah Abdullah and President Ghani.
