KABUL (SW): The Anti-Corruption High Office (ACHO) has said that the President and his power-sharing Chief Executive have yet to declare their assets.
According to the ACHO, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah have in a way violated the law by not declaring their assets so far.
Rahimullah Rahimi, Head of Property Registration at the ACHO, said that the President and the CEO are obliged by the law to declare their assets but they have been indifference to this important issue.
Rahimi feared it would encourage other officials and politicians to follow the suit.
Zafar Hashemi, deputy presidential spokesman told SW that the President was not shying away from declaring his assets.
“The security situation across the country has changed some of the President’s priorities but he (Mohammad Ashraf Ghani) will declare his assets in the near future”.
Article 154 of the Constitution oblige the president, vice presidents, ministers, members of the Supreme Court and Attorney General to declare their assets pre-service and post-service.
Corruption remains an endemic issue in the war-torn country.
Based on the Transparency International’s findings, former President Hamid Karzai, his deputy Karim Khalili, current second Vice President SarwarDanesh, Foreign Minister SalahuddinRabani, other ministers Daud Shah Sabah, Noorulhaq Olumi, SayedHussain Balkhi and Faiz Muhammad Osmani have managed to declare their assets.
