KABUL (SW) – Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani has said soon a political agreement would be signed with Abdullah Abdullah.
He said in a statement that the important principles of the agreement have been agreed upon, and that talks were still under way between the two sides to finalize it.
Earlier this month, the president's spokesman stressed that all matters of the political agreement will be addressed within the framework of the Constitution. According to him, with the finalization of this agreement between Arg and Sepidar, the existing political challenges that have had a negative impact on governance activities will be resolved.
Although he did not mention the principles on which the agreement was reached, but Salam Watandar had received a copy of Abdullah Abdullah's plan about two weeks ago to reach a political agreement with President Ghani. A source close to Abdullah Abdullah confirmed the proposed final plan to Salam Watandar. Under the proposed plan, the central and provincial administrations will be divided equally between Abdullah Abdullah and President Ghani.
The Transparency International watchdog said in a statement on Monday that it was concerned about talks between the two sides to reach an agreement that would divide the judiciary, oversight and law enforcement agencies as well based on political deal.
It called on all political groups to put transparency and accountability at the center of government reform, to respect the independence of the judiciary, and to refrain from politicizing the judiciary and oversight bodies.
