Premier League festivities kick-off

14/08/2016

LONDON (SW): The Premier League action has begun with Manchester City and three other teams emerging victorious from seven matches played on the first day.

The Premier League champions Leicester were stunned by the newly promoted Hull with a final score of 1-2.

The winning side took the lead in added time at the end of the first half after Leicester had missed plenty of chances. The lead was short-lived though as Leicester equalized the goal just 14 seconds into the second-half.

Hull then got their noses back in front on 57 minutes with a powerful left-footed strike from Robert Snodgrass after sloppy defending from Leicester and the Tigers held on to record a major upset, ESPN reported.

In other action, Manchester City got off to a winning start to the Pep Guardiola era with a late 2-1 victory against Sunderland. Everton were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham. Southampton were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford and Middlesborough came away from their first game back in the top flight with a 1-1 draw against Stoke City, Swansea overpowered Burnley 0-1 and Crystal Palace lost 1-0 to West Brom.

A total of 20 teams will feature in this year’s Premier League, which include 19 from England and 1 from Wales. Manchester United remains the most successful team of the event with 13 titles to its credits so far. For this year, Manchester United has acquired French star footballer Paulo Pogba for a record 100 million British pound.
