KABUL (SW) – The editor-in-chief of the 1TV News Abdullah Khinjani has been physically abused by the President Protective Service guards.
Khinjani told a presser in this connection that without a court order brief detention, search of personal items and torture is brazen violation of the laws. He asserted that an individual from the PPS in personal capacity abused and disrespected him. He demanded the government and judiciary to deal with this matter seriously in the light of law.
President Ashraf Ghani’s spokesman, Harun Chakhansuri, said on the occasion no one is above the Constitution, and no one has the right to disrespect others. He promised stern actions would be taken against the perpetrators of this incident.
Multiple reports have suggested violence against journalists is on the rise in Afghanistan. According to the annual report by the Federation of Afghan Journalists, at least 20 journalists got killed in line of duty last year and dozens of more got injured.
